Detailed book overview
It was supposed to be just another ordinary night ...
What happens when your neighborhood harbors a secret so destructive that dangerous men are willing to kill for it?
Welcome to Hidden Refuge, a normal American subdivision full of normal American suburbanites. At least that's what the citizens thought before men impersonating police officers show up on their doorsteps in the middle of the night. Once the entire community is under siege, so begins a long, dark night that will prove to be anything but ordinary.
But Zack Chambers, suburban family man and programmer by trade, has his own secret. One he had dearly hoped that he'd never need to use again. The deadly ex-CIA agent and trained operative plots to take back the night, doing whatever it takes to protect his neighborhood.
In the face of a small army of trained killers, he's got his wits, his babysitter, his equally lethal brother, and a ragtag group of neighbors willing to help.
When Logan West impulsively answers a dead man's ringing phone, he triggers a global race against the clock to track down an unknown organization searching for an Iraqi artifact that is central to a planned attack in the Middle East—one that will draw the United States into a major conflict with Iran.
Logan, a former Marine officer, is quickly contracted as a "consultant" to assist the FBI as part of a special task force bent on stopping the shadowy operatives, whatever the cost. The battles are nonstop, from the plains of the Midwest, to mansions in northern Mexico, to the war-torn Al-Anbar province, pitting an international team against trained mercenaries employed by the world's largest private security contractor...whose owner has a personal vendetta against the US government.
Meanwhile, Logan is battling his own demons, especially the trauma of the ambush that his Force Recon unit suffered at an insurgent torture compound in Fallujah in 2004, which threatens to destroy everything he holds dear.
Roughly two years after the events of Overwatch, Logan West and John Quick are sent to Alaska to investigate the possible presence of a Russian black ops team on a mission to steal American next-generation technology. The resulting violent confrontation triggers a global search for the stolen technology and threatens to pit the United States against China in a looming shadow war and technology race.
As Logan and John—now joined by the chief of the CIA’s Special Operations Group, Cole Matthews—battle their way through Spain, the Mediterranean, and ultimately, across Sudan, an imminent threat arises at home that FBI Deputy Director Mike Benson must face and determine if it is part of a deadly global conspiracy.
With the full resources of the Justice Department, Intelligence Community, and the military (not to mention presidential pardons pre-signed), Logan must battle a secret organization with the connections and funding to rival many first-world nations. The sinister goal of this organization—to pit the United States against China in a bid to dismantle the world’s security and economy.
Back on US soil, Logan and his task force pursue the elusive foe from the woods of northern Virginia to the banks of the Chesapeake Bay, from suburban Maryland across the urban sprawl of Washington DC. The stakes have never been higher for Logan or America itself...
The vice president of the United States is missing, the director of the National Security Agency has been assassinated, and the mysterious organization orchestrating global instability is in tatters. While John Quick recovers from a gunshot wound that nearly killed him, Logan West is on the hunt to bring the vice president back to the United States to face justice for his treason. The final stakes have never been higher and Logan and his task force are left with little to no options. Will it be this warrior’s end?
Set ten months after the events of RULES OF WAR, Amira Cerone emerges from unconsciousness, bound to a chair in a hotel room at the National Harbor.
Confronted by ghosts from her turbulent past, Amira must survive, face her personal demons, relive choices that have lived to haunt her, and prevent an imminent assassination.
Told with the typical blazing pace, emotional undertones, and unparalleled action sequences that are Betley's calling cards, AMIRA will keep its readers on the edge of their seats until the last page. While she's been known as an assassin, a warrior, and a member of Task Force Ares, one word epitomizes who and what she is: AMIRA.
