Detailed book overview
Hannah hugged her sister tightly. 'I know you don't trust life any more. But you've still got to live it - and so do I.'
Hannah and Juliet Goodwin have been best friends since childhood, but when Juliet's boyfriend Luke is killed just as Hannah marries the affluent Michael, the divide between the two sisters is suddenly too painful to bear.
While Hannah prepares for the birth of her first child, Juliet begins to neglect her job, her health, and all those who love her the most. Hannah is the last person she'd appeal to for help.
But then she finds herself drawn into a secret betrayal that threatens to destroy Hannah's happiness before she even has a chance to enjoy it...
Anna has waited a long time to fall in love and now that she has, she's not going to let her boyfriend Charlie's mother stand in her way. Meredith Granger is frighteningly well-cultured and impossible to impress. So far, Anna hasn't even been allowed to meet her. But when Charlie leaves the country on business for the summer, Anna decides to take matters into her own hands. Reinventing herself from 'one of the boys' in an office full of foul-mouthed sales reps into the perfect, butter-wouldn't-melt daughter-in-law, Anna embraces a whole new life.
Garden parties, Sunday tennis, little vintage dresses from Laura Ashley - it seems almost too easy. It's only when she tails Meredith on an Art Explorers' trip to Andalucia that she wonders if things might be rather more difficult, and if she might be a little out of her depth after all ...
They were friends who shared everything—until tragedy singled one out.
At the birth of their daughters, best friends Rachel, Mariel, and Jenny make a promise: to love and care for each other's girls exactly as they would their own. Six years later and a tragedy has torn them apart.
Within weeks, Rachel has packed up and gone. Settling on the beautiful, windswept Greek island of Santorini, she knows she has come to the right place, but as she slowly rebuilds her world she can't forget the pledge she once made to her friends. She hires a private investigator, the enigmatic Johnny Palmer, and arranges for him to send regular updates on the girls she has left behind.
Over the years, with Palmer's help, she is able to secretly soothe their growing pains, as well as those of their parents. But in Rachel's new island life far from home, who will be there to guide her?
