Detailed book overview
Catherine may be among the most sought after girls in Wonderland, but her interests lie elsewhere. A darling of the unwed King of Hearts, the gifted baker hopes to open a pastry shop with her best friend; an ambition that her mother considers as an act of defiance given that she could potentially become the next Queen.
While at a royal ball where the king is supposed to propose to her, Cath meets Jest—the strange yet attractive court joker.
Feeling a true attraction toward him, yet cautious not to offend the king and her parents, she and Jest enter into a passionate, secret courtship.
Cath is determined to define her own destiny by falling in love on her terms, but will she succeed in a land where magic, madness and monsters rein?
Chronic overachiever Prudence Daniels is always quick to cast judgment on the lazy, rude, and arrogant residents of her coastal town. Her dreams of karmic justice are fulfilled when, after a night out with her friends, she wakes up with the sudden ability to cast instant karma on those around her.
Pru giddily makes use of the power, punishing everyone from public vandals to mean gossips, but there is one person on whom her powers consistently backfire: Quint Erickson, her slacker of a lab partner. Quint is annoyingly cute and impressively noble, especially when it comes to his work with the rescue center for local sea animals.
When Pru resigns herself to working at the rescue center for extra credit, she begins to uncover truths about baby otters, environmental upheaval, and romantic crossed signals―not necessarily in that order. Her newfound karmic insights reveal how thin the line is between virtue and vanity, generosity and greed . . . love and hate… and fate.
Long ago cursed by the god of lies, a poor miller's daughter has developed a talent for spinning stories that are fantastical and spellbinding and entirely untrue.
Or so everyone believes.
When one of Serilda's outlandish tales draws the attention of the sinister Erlking and his undead hunters, she finds herself swept away into a grim world where ghouls and phantoms prowl the earth and hollow-eyed ravens track her every move. The king orders Serilda to complete the impossible task of spinning straw into gold, or be killed for telling falsehoods.
In her desperation, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious boy to her aid. He agrees to help her… for a price. Love isn't meant to be part of the bargain.
Soon Serilda realizes that there is more than one secret hidden in the castle walls, including an ancient curse that must be broken if she hopes to end the tyranny of the king and his wild hunt forever.
Be still now, and I will tell you a tale.
Adalheid Castle is in chaos.
Following a shocking turn of events, Serilda finds herself ensnared in a deadly game of make-believe with the Erlking, who is determined to propel her deeper into the castle’s lies. Meanwhile, Serilda is determined to work with Gild to help him solve the mystery of his forgotten name and past.
But soon it becomes clear that the Erlking doesn’t only want to use Serilda to bring back his one true love. He also seeks vengeance against the seven gods who have long trapped the Dark Ones behind the veil. If the Erlking succeeds, it could change the mortal realm forever.
Can Serilda find a way to use her storytelling gifts for good—once and for all? And can Serilda and Gild break the spells that tether their spirits to the castle before the Endless Moon finds them truly cursed?
Thirteen of the most celebrated bestselling authors team up with thirteen leading BookTubers in this Young Adult anthology to recreate fairy tales from the often misjudged villains’ points of view.
These uncommon twists on classics like “Medusa,” Sherlock Holmes, and “Jack and the Beanstalk” give a backstage look into villains, and their acts of vengeance, resistance, and fury—along with the pain, heartache and sadness that spurned them on.
Fairy tales will never be the same again after this.
This anthology features writing from Renée Ahdieh, Ameriie, Soman Chainani, Susan Dennard, Sarah Enni, Marissa Meyer, Cindy Pon, Victoria Schwab, Samantha Shannon, Adam Silvera, Andrew Smith, April Genevieve Tucholke and Nicola Yoon
From dogsleds and ships, stagecoaches and trains, take a journey across America right from pirate ships off the coast of the Carolinas to the peace, love, and protests of Chicago in the 1960s.
In this anthology, fifteen of the most gifted writers of young adult literature today take us on a exciting ride through history with American girls creating their own course.
Made up of monsters and mediums, bodyguards and barkeeps, screenwriters and schoolteachers, heiresses and hobos, they use every weapon in their artillery for brave acts such as defeating murderers and overcoming marriage proposals.
Even better is that they share the story.
The Lunar Chronicles
Cinder is plotting a daring escape from prison. Executing it will however mark the beginning of her problems, as she’ll become the most wanted fugitive in the Commonwealth.
Elsewhere, halfway across the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother—who has lived in danger her whole life—goes missing.
While attempting to rescue her, Scarlet meets a street fighter by the name Wolf. Hesitant at first, she has little choice but to trust him, as her desire to find her grandmother overrides the suspicion she has of him.
It is while working with the street fighter that Scarlet crosses paths with Cinder.
There, they join forces to thwart Queen Levana’s plans of making Prince Kai her husband, king and prisoner.
Escapees on the run, Cinder, Captain Thorne, Scarlet and Wolf are planning to overthrow Queen Levana—thereby preventing her from invading Earth with her army.
The only person who can help them achieve this is Cress. A prisoner, the talented hacker has however been blackmailed to work for Queen Levana, and is on orders to track down Cinder and her co-conspirator.
Cress is freed after an audacious rescue mission; one that comes at a price as the group is separated.
With Queen Levana still determined to get married to Emperor Kai, Cress, Scarlet and Cinder are the only ones who can save the Earth.
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who is the fairest of them all?”
Keen followers of the adored Lunar Chronicles know that Queen Levana is an evil genius who uses her “glamour” to gain power.
However, long before she faced off with the likes of Cinder, Scarlet and Cress, Levana lived a very different story.
This epic tale of love, war, treachery and death tells the untold story of Levana.
This book also includes full-color art, and an excerpt from Winter—the next installation of the Lunar Chronicles series.
Winter is the stepdaughter of Queen Levana. She detests Levana, and knows that her stepmother could never approve of her feelings for Jacin—her childhood friend who now serves as a palace guard.
Unlike her stepmother however, Princess Winter is loved by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness.
Despite the noticeable scars across her face, her beauty is considered far beyond that of Queen Levana.
Winter has over the years undermined her stepmother’s authority, and with the help of Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, and her allies, the Princess could very well spark an uprising that could finally bring down Queen Levana.
Will this story have a happy ending?
The Lunar Chronicles universe has many stories and secrets. How did Cinder for instance arrive in New Beijing? How did Wolf transform end up becoming a killer? When did Princess Winter and Jacin, the palace guard, know their fates?
Stars Above is a must have for fans of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles.
The stories contained in this book include: The Keeper, Glitches, The Queen’s Army, Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky, After Sunshine Passes By, The Princess and the Guard, The Little Android, The Mechanic and Something Old, Something New.
In this first graphic novel, celebrated author Marissa Meyer reveals more about the world of the Lunar Chronicles with an exciting, new, action-oriented story about Iko—the android with a heart of mechanized gold.
When rogue packs of wolf-hybrid soldiers threaten to disrupt the fragile peace alliance between Earth and Luna, Iko considers it her responsibility to hunt down the leader of the soldiers.
But Iko starts having doubts regarding everything she knows about love, loyalty and her own humanity when she begins working with a handsome royal guard.
Being that it contains appearances by Cinder and the rest of the Rampion crew, this is a book that should be in the possession of every fan of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series.
Iko, the brave android with a heart of mechanized gold, and best friend to Queen Cinder, is on a mission to hunt down Alpha Lysander Steele—leader of a rogue band of wolf-hybrid soldiers who threaten to disrupt the fragile peace agreement between Earth and Luna.
Determined to find a way of blackmailing the Lunar Queen to reverse the mutations that were forced on them several years back, Steele and his soldiers start taking hostages with the motive of starting a massacre of the innocents.
Featuring Cinder and Kai, Scarlet and Wolf, Cress and Thorne, and Winter and Jacin, the world of the Lunar Chronicles comes alive once again in this stirring continuation of Wires and Nerve.
“All she wants is vengeance. All he wants is justice.”
Comprising of humans with extraordinary abilities, the Renegades are an organization of prodigies who rose from the ruins of a destroyed society to establish law and order at a place where violence reigned.
As the primary advocates of justice, they are the beacon of hope and bravery to everyone—save for the villains they once overthrew.
Nova is a girl who despises the Renegades and seeks revenge. But while undertaking her mission, she crosses paths with Adrian—a boy who believes in justice, and in Nova.
Nova’s loyalty is however to a villain; something that could end them both!
“Are Nova and Adrian each other’s worst nightmare?”
During the debut novel of this part thriller, part superhero fantasy series, Nova and Adrian—otherwise known as Insomnia and Sketch—fought the battle of their lives against the Detonator, aka the Anarchist. It was however just but a short-lived victory.
The Anarchists still possess a secret weapon; something that Nova believes will protect her.
On the other hand, the Renegades have devised a plan to overcome the Anarchists. Nova and Adrian however understand that executing it could very well mean the end of Gatlon City, and by extension, the world.
“All's fair in love and anarchy…”
Nova and Adrian are having a hard time hiding their secret identities when the never ending battles between their alter egos, their allies, and their greatest fears roar to life.
As anarchy once again seeks to take over Gatlon City, secrets, lies and betrayals will come to light.
Will the city survive this time round?
One thing is for sure. You can never wear a mask forever. Love and Anarchy simply won't allow it.
This is the epic conclusion to the exhilarating Renegades Trilogy by Marissa Meyer.
