Island in the Sand

Orphans, roaming toddlers or strange children would not be allowed into any tribe.

There was very little left for the surviving population, so much that they couldn’t afford the luxury of sharing even the slightest of relief.

Animals found wandering would be slaughtered for food.

Adult non-members would face the same hostility as the animals, although their remains were never used as food.

Young ones from outside the tribe were rejected. Communication was strictly forbidden.

All tribes had vowed to stick to the general agreement, hoping to restore humanity to the level of civilization that previously existed before the asteroid wreaked havoc.

Anthologies

The Fish Doesn't Have to Be Real: An Anthology of the Wisdom of Children

The minds of children couldn’t be any different from those of adults.

Their minds work very actively free from the difficult layers of duplicity that they’ll certainly need in order to survive in the adult world.

Adults, in most cases, never present children with the truths and harsh realities that these young members of the society normally present them with. In fact, children get away with the truths that they energetically spew.

In this collection of short stories, author James Strauss draws various characters and situations from his interaction with children in his life.

The tough life lessons give rise to a moving romantic tale in which `The Boy' battles to gain love and acceptance, whilst confronting overwhelming tribal beliefs.

Petrifying yet fascinating, in this world faced with monumental change, prehistoric man and animals not only learn to accept each other, but also have faith in each other.

The Warrior

A young man reaches maturity about 25,000 years ago.

He was never part of the tight-knit social order that united all the male tribal members.

From the slight waves and nods to the stares of recognition, they were all witnessed but never received.

Although his presence was always recognized, no conversation was ever presented, or developed into anything meaningful.

He wasn’t sure whether he wanted to be known as the outsider he had been, or the warrior he had become that nobody was ready to accept.

Both roles disqualified him for the most important leadership part of the tribe. And he just didn’t understand why.
