Detailed book overview
Alex doesn’t believe in fate.
He doesn’t like to think of his life as somehow being pre-destined or set in stone. The way he sees it, nothing is written in the stars.
Instead, Alex prefers to believe that his choices matter, that all of them, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, have a role to play. Alex believes that only he can decide the journey his life will take.
But what if those choices were taken out of Alex’s hands. What if he no longer had the power to decide not just the journey, but also the destination.
Would it change things?
Or would everything stay the same?
Well, Alex is about to find out.
And you know what they say.
Every action has a reaction.
Every choice has a consequence.
And every decision has a repercussion.
And to think…it all started with a girl.
Nick and Emma lead very different lives.
He’s an emotionally drained, closed off bartender trying to pretend that the loss he suffered a year ago isn’t slowly killing him. She’s an overworked and aloof emergency room doctor who’s trying to deal with the fact she can’t save all her patients.
Both of them know what pain and grief feels like. And both of them are experts at burying it.
All it takes is one fateful night when their lives collide. Neither of them is expecting it, yet somehow, they find solace confiding in a stranger they know they’ll never see again. But there’s something about that night that changes them both, and despite their reluctance, it slowly materializes into much more.
And when it does, they’ll both have to face the long-buried secrets they’ve been trying to ignore.
I Love You
When Ash loses her boyfriend, she is consumed by grief, loneliness, and an overwhelming sense of guilt for her role in not only his death, but the deaths of everyone she has ever loved. Refusing to let anyone in for fear of losing them too, she becomes withdrawn, spending her days reliving the nightmares from her past. Until she meets Luke. Initially scared by his intensity and interest in her, Ash tries to push him away.
But as Luke slowly starts to chip away at the walls she's built, Ash finds herself doing the one thing she swore she'd never do again - falling in love.
When the familiar feelings Ash had hoped were long buried with her past begin to resurface, she is forced to ask herself if falling in love again is really worth the risk.
Five years ago, tragedy brought Jared and Mia together. A tragedy that was the start of an unlikely source of support, a true friendship and eventually, deep, heart-stopping love. Until the day something pushed them apart, forcing one of them to let the other one go.
Now, over the course of a day and a night, Jared and Mia will finally talk about how it all went wrong. How something which seemed so perfect and true, was so easily broken. And just when they think they’ve found their way back to each other, their love, will once more be put to the ultimate test.
Sometimes, you never realize how much you can hurt the one you love.
Sometimes, you never realize the lengths you’ll go to, to help someone you love.
And sometimes, you never realize just how stubborn love can be.
Because it’s impossible to let somebody go, when you never stopped loving them in the first place.
For years, Luke searched for the life that he always wanted to live, running from a past he desperately wanted to forget. He thought he’d found it, that he’d finally escaped everything that was suffocating him, and could breathe for the first time.
And then he met Ash.
Ash showed him that not only was there more to life than he ever imagined, but that love, true love, was the one thing he was still missing. And even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, their love could survive anything.
As dreams of a recording deal suddenly become a reality, the shadows of Luke’s past finally start to catch up with him, and the one person he’s been trying to escape will threaten not only his happiness, but everything he’s worked so hard to achieve. Luke will be forced to face the life he left behind and everything he’s been trying to forget.
Losing Me Finding You
The 29th of February, the day I was born.
When I wake up on this day, I’m in a different city, with a different life and no memory of the lives I had before this one. Today is the tenth time this has happened to me. The tenth time I’ve had to figure out where the hell I am. The tenth time I’ve had to try and work out who the hell I am. This is the tenth alteration of the person I am. Each of us has had different lives, different backgrounds and different families. But there’s always been one constant.
He’s the reason I keep doing this. He’s the reason I spend four years searching. If I’m lucky, I’ll get the trigger and find him quickly and we can spend those four years together before I disappear again. If I’m not, we might get a year, a month or even just a day. Once we got nothing, but that was a choice.
And every time it happens, he patiently waits for me. He says that every time I come back to him, it’s like falling in love with me all over again. I say that every time I come back, I fall even more in love with him than before.
It scares me that one day I won't be able to find him at all, because when that day comes, I'm not sure I'll want to keep going. He is my strength, my protector, my one and only constant.
I love him.
He loves me.
But every four years, I lose myself.
And every four years, I have to find him.
This is our story.
When I was a boy, I met a girl.
She changed my life.
In such a good way.
She taught me so many amazing things. Like how to expect the unexpected. How to want something, but also how to wait for it when circumstances forced you to. She taught me about bravery and facing your fears, about beating the odds when it felt like everything was against you. She also taught me how to laugh and how to believe in magic. She taught me about things I never even knew existed.
She taught me how to love.
I was only five years old when I met Evie Roberts. I loved her then and I love her now. The only difference is, now she’s Evie Foster.
She’s already told you her side of the story. Now I’m going to tell you mine. Well, it’s all still our story, because really, without her, my story wouldn’t matter.
