Erika Leonard, popularly known by her pen name E. L. James, is a British author of the bestselling provocative romance Fifty Shades of Grey Series.

Born in Willesden, Middlesex, Erika is a former TV executive, wife and mother of two.

Although she had been writing romantic fiction novels since 2009, her career took off in 2012 when the Fifty Shades Trilogy became a worldwide bestseller.

Her novels have sold over 125 million copies across the globe, with over 35 million copies sold in the United States alone.

Erika was named among "The World's 100 Most Influential People” in 2012 by Time magazine, and is currently based in the leafy suburbs of West London.
