Sleuth Slayer

America's leading mystery writers are being brutally murdered. Third-tier author Guy Davitt, a would-be Dashiell Hammett, stumbles upon the killer's bizarre M.O. (the deaths are lifted from mystery novels). But Davitt cannot convince deeply skeptical police that a Sleuth Slayer actually exists.

Through a dark labyrinth of film studio power brokers, publishing industry politics, a decadent family's wealthy influence, police immorality, as well as the dawning realization that he himself is on the killer's list, Davitt pursues the truth.

Shadow Play

Shadow Play is a collection of short fiction horror pieces by Minnesota-based author Jeffrey B. Burton. Don’t turn around. Walk fast, faster because something or someone may just be after you. This collection offers enough mystery, murder, and mayhem to fill a whole season worth of the old Alfred Hitchcock Presents or Twilight Zone television episodes.

A Bit of a Twist

The twelve short stories presented in A Bit of A Twist are each mostly normal and ordinary, but somewhere in the story is a twist. In “David’s Not Here”, “Marriage Counselor”, “Down Home”, “River Road”, “Happily Ever After”, and “Blind Date”, the ending takes a bit of a twist from what you were probably expecting. “The Chateau de Puyguilhem” and “The Wish” take stories you’re already familiar with, and give the whole thing a bit of a twist. “Reunion”, “Eternal Youth”, and “Aliens Among Us” each have a bit of a mental twist. And “Air of Authority” shows what happens when you twist around words.

As you read these stories, you will also discover that many of them involve some degree of revenge. Because, after all, what is revenge but twisting someone’s own actions back on them?

And as always, each story in the Read on the Run series of anthologies is short, to suit your busy lifestyle.

The Twisted Book of Shadows

Mainstream publishers want all-star lineups. Small press publishers often can't afford to pay pro rates...and even when they can, the names in the table of contents can be limited by the editor's reach or effort. Bestselling horror, fantasy, and thriller authors Christopher Golden and James A. Moore knew there had to be a better way. Inspired by the efforts of legendary anthology Charles L. Grant, who helped move so many new writers in the horror community's conversation, Golden and Moore teamed up with Haverhill House's Twisted Publishing imprint to create...

Determined to pay pro rates, the editors crowdfunded the project, and then put the word out as far and wide as possible, loudly and repeatedly encouraging submissions by diverse voices, and recruiting a stellar editorial committee to read along with them, including Linda A. Addison, Nadia Bulkin, Rachel Autumn Deering, Lamar Giles, KL Pereira, and Lee Thomas.

Out of seven hundred stories received through a blind submission process-none of the editors had any idea who the authors were-nineteen made the final cut. Within these pages you will find the beautifully weird side-by-side with terrifying nightmares, horrifying folklore, and hellish futures. Nineteen unique and haunting tales that truly earned their place in a book entitled...

Drew Cady

The Chessman

Hidden forces are willing to kill any and all who stand in the way of untold billions. To toss the authorities off track, they borrow the modus operandi of a brutal serial killer—'The Chessman'—who stalked the corridors of power in Washington, D.C. some years earlier.

The ruse is working brilliantly except for one minor detail. The real Chessman is not pleased—not pleased one iota—that someone has stolen his M.O. Enter Drew Cady, ex-FBI agent, who finds himself being sucked back into the very case that almost took his life, a case that crippled him both physically and emotionally.

By capturing 'The Chessman' and his blood-spattered copycat, Cady has a last shot at redemption. If he can find a way to survive, that is.

The Lynchpin

Special Agent Drew Cady has waved goodbye to Washington, D.C., and ten years of chasing violent felons in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Investigative Division (CID).

He is on the mend, both physically and emotionally, as he helps run his fiancée’s resort in northern Minnesota while working part-time on the FBI’s Medicare Fraud Strike Force in Minneapolis. Chasing white collar criminals is a far cry from hunting serial killers and Cady basks in the glow of his newer, more laid-back lifestyle, that is, until a young woman’s body possessing a most-disturbing characteristic is pulled from Lake Superior outside of Duluth. And if being ordered to investigate this case isn’t bad enough, Cady’s former boss―Assistant Director of CID Roland Jund―has killed a fellow agent and stands accused of being a spy.

Now Agent Cady must draw upon every last bit of experience he has to clear his friend’s name while at the same time ensuring that no more innocent lives are extinguished by a sadistic killer with a taste for blood. But nobody is who they appear to be and information is only as reliable as its source.

The Eulogist

FBI Special Agent Drew Cady is reluctantly drawn into investigating the assassination of a sitting United States senator. Strangely, the senator’s death is linked to a murdered Baltimore junkie with an identical MO - a single stab wound to the heart and a typed eulogy left at the scene.

As Agent Cady deals with a professional hit man known only as the Canadian, as well as a breakthrough Alzheimer’s drug, a misanthropic hacker, and a Mexican drug cartel, he peels back the layers of deceit and comes to realize that even the reddest of red herrings can bite.

And unfortunately for all involved, the killings have just begun.
