Detailed book overview
What happens when cable televangelism and gay pride lock horns on a deserted Polynesian island? How about when Lord of the Rings trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkien arrives in newly independent Kazakhstan? And when DNA tests confirm the existence of a mythical lost tribe of Israel?
Journalist Gayle Forman, in this collection of witty and touching tales, takes readers to the physical and cultural fringes of the earth as she communes with lovelorn transvestites, persecuted punk rockers, unemployed prostitutes, and guerrilla linguists, who all show the human side of globalization.
Traveling with her husband, Forman also provides a deep personal picture of marriage and globetrotting.
Ever had the out-of-control dream? The one where you are so sure of yourself yet no one else will listen to you?
For Brit Hemphill, the out-of-control dream comes to pass when she is enlisted by her dad at Red Rock—a bogus treatment center claiming to cure rebellious teen girls.
There, the sixteen-year-old is forced into therapy; with her hope of getting her life back resting in the hands of an underqualified group of counselors, an uncompromising Sheriff and an uncaring shrink.
Whereas her dad thinks that Red Rock will help save her deviant daughter, Brit is convinced that the place is doing more harm than good to her.
It’s hard to know who to trust in a place when ratting on your peer earns you privileges.

Just One Series
“Often, the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.”
What’s the similarity between Allyson Healey’s life and her suitcase? They are both packed, planned and ordered. That’s however until she meets Willem on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour.
A free-spirited, wanderlust actor, Willem is everything she’s not. So when he invites her to ditch her plans and travel to Paris with him, Allyson says yes.
Uncharacteristic in every sense of the word, the decision will change Allyson’s life forever. The next 24 hours will be full of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy.
A tale of love, heartache, globetrotting and random acts of fate, this book shows us how sometimes you first have to get lost in order to get found.
Upon opening his eyes, Willem hasn’t got a clue where he is. Could it be Prague, Dubrovnik or home in Amsterdam? All he knows is that he is alone—not for the first time—and that he needs to find a girl by the name Lulu.
The two shared one magical day in Paris and something about that day just makes him wonder if fate has something good planned for them.
Being the globetrotter that he is, Willem travels all over the world, from Mexico to India, hoping to find her. But as the days become months and Lulu remains elusive, Willem starts questioning fate.
This is an emotional, romantic story about the choices we make and the accidents that happen—and the happiness we can find in between.
