Detailed book overview
When Adriana, a brilliant young archaeologist, accepts a position at the Museum of Archaeology in her hometown of Santander, Spain, she never imagines that her new boss has lived through the history she can only study.
Iago, the charismatic technical director of the museum, is more than ten thousand years old but appears to be only thirty-five. Iago and his family are longevos―people who never seem to age after reaching adulthood. The ancient family is divided: Iago’s brother and sister seek the source of their longevity in hopes of creating more like themselves, while Iago and his father fear the repercussions of the true Fountain of Youth.
A dangerous game of power and knowledge that has played out over eons becomes even more complicated when Adriana attracts both brothers’ attention―and learns their secret.
The unexpected return of Gunnarr, the son that Iago thought had died in the battle of Kinsale in Ireland in 1602, will change the peaceful life that Iago del Castillo and Adriana Alameda had built for themselves in Santander, Spain.
But Gunnarr won’t be the only person from his past that Iago will have to come up against. Prehistory, Europe: Lür travels across a devastated land looking for the clan of The Sons of Adam and their legendary matriarch, Adana, who, it is said, never grows old.
800 AC, Denmark: Gunnarr tells Adriana about his first years of life and how he became a berserker, a member of a dangerous and legendary group of Viking warriors.
1620 AC, New England: Urko boards the Mayflower, where he meets Manon Adams, a strong woman who will leave her mark despite the passing of time.
The Ancient Family travel through the millennia to discover that they have been persecuted since before their birth.
Inspector Unai Lopez de Ayala
HOW DO YOU STOP A KILLER WHO'S ALWAYS TWO STEPS AHEAD?
A madman is holding Vitoria hostage, killing its citizens in brutal ways and staging the bodies. The city's only hope is a brilliant detective struggling to battle his own demons.
Inspector Unai López de Ayala, known as "Kraken," is charged with investigating a series of ritualistic murders. The killings are eerily similar to ones that terrorized the citizens of Vitoria twenty years earlier. But back then, police were sure they had discovered the killer, a prestigious archaeologist who is currently in jail.
Now Kraken must race to determine whether the killer had an accomplice or if the wrong man has been incarcerated for two decades. This fast-paced, unrelenting thriller weaves in and out of the mythology and legends of the Basque country as it hurtles to its shocking conclusion.
HOW DO YOU UNMASK A KILLER WHO'S SPENT YEARS PREPARING TO HUNT YOU DOWN?
A pregnant woman has been murdered in a brutal, ritualistic way: burned, hung, and then placed upside down in a Bronze Age cauldron. When Unai “Kraken” Lopez de Ayala discovers the victim is his first love, Ana Belén Liaño, memories of their time together come flooding back, and with them reminders of a dark secret long buried.
Then the killer strikes again, enacting the same ritual against a second expectant parent. Kraken knows he must confront his past in order to unmask this fiend. And there’s no time to waste, because Deputy Superintendent Díaz de Salvatierra has just found out she's carrying a child. And the father could very well be Kraken himself...
Kraken is on the hunt for a murderer whose macabre crimes are lifted straight from history.
Kraken is enjoying life as a family man, content to spend his days with Alba and their young daughter Deba. But there's no rest for the weary, especially when you're the most famous investigator in Vitoria. Kraken and Esti are charged with investigating the mysterious disappearance of two sisters and finding it hard to make any headway when a wealthy businessman's murder appears to shine a light on the case.
The man was poisoned with a medieval aphrodisiac--a crime that has eerie similarities to one detailed in the novel everyone in Vitoria is buzzing about. When the two sisters are discovered trapped behind a wall--bricked up alive--the parallels to the novel are undeniable.
With the author's identity a closely held secret, will Kraken be able to track down the killer before they can strike again? Or will Vitoria's sordid underworld finally break Kraken, and his family, apart.
