Detailed book overview
It wasn’t just any night and the two of them certainly weren’t just any brothers.
The scene is an Atlanta bar. Music is booming and the dance floor is packed. The handsome brother goes ahead and picks up a girl, but when terrible deeds ensue out in the parking lot, what happens next can only be described in two words: vintage Slaughter.
From the first scene to the very last line, Thorn in My Side is as wicked as it is captivating.
First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes revenge.
Fifty-two-year-old Pam diligently played her role as a loyal wife to her now ex-husband John.
But when John, who dropped her cruelly, is diagnosed with an incurable illness about to claim his life, Pam sees an opportunity; an opportunity to settle the score.
In yet another gripping short story by international bestselling writer, Karin Slaughter, Pam will be looking to settle a score in a way that neither her children, nor her ex, not even the reader will see it coming.

Being a Mr Less-Than-Average in an average world, Martin has resigned to the world that he lives in—the school bullies now pick on him in the workplace, he is continually rejected by women and his supervisor is now his arch enemy.
When a co-worker is brutally murdered and her body abandoned in a ditch, the evidence overwhelming points to Martin, especially because he won't admit to having an alibi. The conspiracy against him takes a worse turn when a second victim is found in the company bathroom.
A stunning Detective Anther Albada is the only one who is sympathetic to him, but her doubts about his innocence continue to increase.
Could Martin be guilty? Or is he just misunderstood?

Why? Because girls are disappearing.
Beatrice Oliver, a fellow student, is missing. A homeless woman by the name Mona-No-Name is also missing. The both of them are taken off the street. The both of them are gone without a trace.

Could the disappearance of a teenage girl and the killing of a middle-aged man be connected, despite the two events occurring nearly a quarter-century apart?
Forming an uncomfortable alliance, the surviving sisters look to memories from the past in a bid to find the truth, uncovering buried secrets that destroyed their family many years ago.

Lying in the hospital twenty-four hours later is Laura; shot by an invader who has spent thirty long years tracking her down—trying to find out what she knows.

Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn's blissful small-town family life was shredded apart by a terrible ambush on their family home.
The attack left their mother dead while their father–an infamous defense attorney in Pikeville– was beyond shattered. The family was never the same again; consumed by secrets from that dreadful night.
Nearly three decades later, Charlie has gone on to become a lawyer, following in her father's footsteps.
Her nightmare however begins when an unspoken violence strikes Pikeville again. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but the case floods her with memories of a frightening past she spent long trying to suppress.
And with it comes the shocking truth about the events that destroyed her family twenty-eight years ago.
Charlie Quinn’s childhood came to a sudden and explosive end when she was only thirteen years old. Two men—holding a grudge against her father who was a lawyer—forced their way into her home, leaving her world shattered for the rest of her life.
Now a lawyer herself, Charlie has sworn to defend those who have no one else to turn to. So when Flora Faulkner, a motherless teen, pleads for help, Charlie is reminded of events from her own past, and as such vows to help her. But the brilliant student is in far deeper trouble than Charlie initially thought.
How far can Charlie go to protect her client? Does she even believe everything she is being told?
Protecting someone always comes at a cost.

Unknown to both of them however, an ex-con stumbles upon the killer’s trail in the most unexpected of ways—and could provide answers that would lead to a groundbreaking discovery in the investigation.

Caught between two complicated and determined women in Adams and Linton, Trent will unleash a case filled with dreadful secrets; one with a fine line that could prove murderous if crossed.
When her mother isn’t answering her phone, her front door is open with a stain of blood above the knob, and her infant daughter is hidden in a shed behind the house, Faith Mitchell’s cop instinct quickly kicks in.
